Vege Patch in Progress
This is the vege patch so far, thanks to a lot of digging, and Grandad helped with the 20cm tall cypress border. Half of it has very fertile soil down to 30cms, (at least, that's when I stopped digging) and the other half has fertile soil for 15 cms before turning to rock and clay. I will be building the whole bed up, and will have to alternate half of one side the other half of that side for carrots and root crops. The rocky side will be fine for tomatoes, and leaf crops, as well as vines to run up the fence, like peas and beans. Hopefully after two seasons that side will have built up enough to experiment with root crops in it. :0)
I have to dig out all of the grass, dig through mulch & blood & bone for airation and fertiliser, cover with newspaper, and put a top layer of mulch on. Then I will plant in a handful of seedraising mix ON TOP of the top layer of mulch. Indeed, you can plant into hay bales, with just a handful of dirt if you want. When the crops start growing I will simply pull some mulch so that all dirt is covered & away we go!
Happy Gardening!
